Pippy Houldsworth Gallery presents radical artist Jacqueline de Jong at Frieze Masters

The first U.K. solo presentation of radical Dutch artist Jacqueline de Jong entitled ‘Please not!’ was unveiled at Frieze Masters by Pippy Houldsworth Gallery. A key figure of the 1960s’ European avant-garde, de Jong was a member of the Situationist International and later publisher and editor of cult publication The Situationist Times.

Following the artist’s retrospective exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam earlier this year, Pippy Houldsworth Gallery is presenting two series of de Jong’s paintings: Erotic Paintings created while she was living in Paris in 1968 and which reflect the sexual and political revolution of the time, and Chronique d’Amsterdam (1970-71), comprising canvas diptychs which juxtapose personal writings with visual scenarios of the civil rights movement, war, sadomasochism, and popular culture.
