WWF Tiger Trail x Michelle Poonawalla
Michelle Poonawalla unveiled her new tiger sculpture, The Striped Tiger, as a part of the WWF-Singapore’s AR-mazing Tiger Trail at Supertree Grove, Gardens by the Bay, Singapore on 26 February. The island-wide, group exhibition of tiger artwork will be on display for 6 weeks after which it will be auctioned off by Sotheby’s Hong Kong to raise vital funds for tiger conservation and at-risk tiger populations in Southeast Asia.
Her sculpture will be showcased amongst works by over 60 leasing artists including Bharti Kher, Subodh Gupta, Zhang Huan and Shepard Fairey. The Striped Tiger has been inspired by the Common Butterfly – a butterfly that has tiger stripes on its wings. Poonawalla’s work is known for its recurring motif of a butterfly which is intended to be a symbol of freedom, fragility and the metamorphoses of life. Both animals let each other borrow strength, support and positivity during tough times.
33 fibreglass tiger sculptures will be available on Sotheby’s Hong Kong and the auction will be live from 12 – 26 April 2022.
