The Sheikh Zayed Book Award announce 2020 winners
On Wednesday 8th April, the 2020 Sheikh Zayed Book Awards announced the winners of the 14th edition of the prize. Having received the highest number of submissions ever recorded, particularly in the Young Author and Literature categories, seven winners were chosen to receive the career-changing prize. The winners hail from six different countries, including the UK, US, The Netherlands, Iraq, Tunisia and Palestine. Each will receive a prize of 750,000 UAE dirhams ($204,000 USD), making this one of the world’s most generous literary prizes.
Dame Marina Warner, former winner of the Arabic Culture in Other Languages category, 2018) celebrated this year’s winners, hailing the Sheikh Zayed Book Award as one that nourishes the academic community, “less of a trophy than a lavish bursary that allows the recipient to continue their adventures in understanding”.
