OMM – Odunpazarı Modern Museum (Turkey) has been awarded ‘International Project of the Year > £1m’ at the Museums + Heritage Awards 2020. Organised in the UK to highlight and honour important initiatives in the fields of cultural heritage and museums, M+H Awards celebrate excellence within the industry across the globe.
Flint Culture led OMM’s application to the prestigious M+H Awards in recognition of the outstanding achievements of the museum in its inaugural year.
As part of our awards strategy, we audited the full scope of programmes delivered by the museum including exhibitions, learning and education, public engagement and residences. We collaborated with team members from across OMM to write a standout application that reflected the successes and unique character of the museum.
Winners across 15 categories were announced in an online ceremony on 22 September streamed via Facebook and YouTube. OMM was shortlisted alongside the following projects: Barker Langham on behalf of The National Museum of Qatar; Liget Budapest Project, House of the Hungarian Millennium; Municipality of Leiden, Museum De Lakenhal; Happel Cornelisse Verhoeven, Julian Harrap Architects, Restoration and Expansion of Museum de Lakenhal; and Museum of Literature Ireland.
This September marks one year since the striking museum designed by Kengo Kuma and Associates opened its doors, breathing new cultural life into Eskişehir and the contemporary art scene in Turkey. Since its opening, OMM has hosted four standout exhibitions, two artist residencies and welcomed 166,321 visitors from Turkey and abroad, including over 6,700 students on free school tours and 1,000 participants in learning and education programmes.
