Launched on 7 September 2022, OMM celebrates its 3rd year anniversary with a new group exhibition titled ‘Grief and Pleasure’. Bringing together works by 38 artists, the exhibition centres around the capacity of the body to inhabit emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger, fear, surprise, disgust, contempt and shame, as well as contradictory states such as grief and pleasure. Artists represented in the exhibition include Ali İbrahim Öcal, Alpin Arda Bağcık, Annemarie Busschers, Asger Carlsen, Ayça Telgeren, Begüm Yamanlar, Bill Viola, Bruce Nauman, CANAN, Catherine Opie, Cindy Sherman, Elif Uras, Erdoğan Zümrütoğlu, Erwin Wurm, filip custic, Francesco Albano, Hicham Benohoud, Iiu Susiraja, İ. ‘Grief and Pleasure’ showcases works produced in a range of media including painting, photography, sculpture, video and installation, with an aspiration to free the body from the yoke of authority and social ideologies, while holding a mirror to the changing values and norms of contemporary society. The exhibition investigates the boundaries of the body and the ways in which it is confined, its place within a complex network of contemporary relations, its virtual potential, and the ethical and social parameters that affect it. Spreading across all three floors of OMM, ‘Grief and Pleasure’ can be visited until 30 July 2023.
OMM is a cross-cultural platform where modern and contemporary art from Turkey and abroad is exhibited with a universal perspective. Launched in September 2019, OMM is also a distinctive architectural landmark designed by Kengo Kuma and Associates (KKAA), the world-renowned architectural office. Founded by art collector and businessperson Erol Tabanca, OMM is the first of its kind in Eskisehir, a university city in north west Turkey. OMM continues to welcome its visitors with innovative exhibition programmes and events that are open to different disciplines and focused on intercultural communication.
