Mayfair Art Weekend returns for its 6th edition with a lively programme of free events for all

Mayfair Art Weekend announces its programme of exhibitions, tours, talks, performances and workshops for the 6th edition of the annual art festival in London, taking place from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th June. Celebrating the cultural heritage of one of the world’s most historic and thriving art districts, this year sees the participation of renowned commercial galleries, such as Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Hauser & Wirth, Gagosian, and Victoria Miro, joining not-for-profit art spaces including the newly opened Mimosa House and the capital’s favourite Royal Academy of Art.

The 6th edition features an outstanding female presence, including leading female gallerists, curators and artists. At Victoria Miro, visitors will find the first solo exhibition in the UK of US artist Howardena Pindell, while at Richard Saltoun, the British artist Penny Slinger reveals photographic works driven by a long-standing interest in erotica, mysticism, and feminist reclamations of the body.  Meanwhile, Dame Julia Peyton Jones, Global Director of Special Projects at Ropac, has co-curated a bold group exhibition with artist Alvaro Barrington, bringing together the work of Elizabeth Peyton, Mary T. Smith, Elizabeth Murray, Charline von Heyl and myriad other artists who have inspired Barrington’s colourful canvases.

The Weekend launches with ‘Gallery HOP!’ on Friday 28 June from 6-8pm, when galleries host special evening viewings and events. Highlights include a live jazz performance at Cynthia Corbett Gallery and an immersive soundscape created by DJ Cedric Bardawil of Fourth Sounds in response to the Waddington Custot exhibition, featuring paintings by Joan Miró and Cy Twombly among other 20th-century calligraphic artists. Throughout the Weekend, ‘MAW Live’ at Cork Street Galleries will also present a series of talks and panel discussions focussing on some of the most topical issues in the art world today.
