The Dorchester

Flint worked with 5-star hotel The Dorchester in London to launch ‘Masterpieces of Orientalist Art: The Shafik Gabr Collection’ – a magnificent book celebrating the Orientalist art collection of prominent Egyptian business leader and philanthropist Shafik Gabr.  Containing seminal works by Jean-Leon Gerome, Frederick Arthur Bridgman and David Roberts, The Shafik Gabr Collection is widely renowned as one of the finest and most extensive collections of Orientalist art in the world.

Drawing inspiration from the 19th century Orientalist traveller painters, who he sees as “early Globalists” and bridge-builders between the Oriental and Occidental worlds, in 2012 Gabr conceived an ambitious global exchange project titled “East-West: The Art of Dialogue,” aimed at enhancing critical understanding and cooperation amongst young emerging leaders in the Arab World and the West.

On 21st November 2012 The Dorchester hosted an ‘East-West’ symposium, attended by business, political and cultural luminaries from around the globe, in advance of a gala reception and exhibition to launch the book.  Guests included former UK prime minister The Rt. Hon. Tony Blair, Sir Sherard Cowper Coles, Lord Poltimore and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.

The promotional campaign achieved wide-ranging international press coverage for both the book and the ‘East-West’ initiative, with features in publications including The Independent, The London Evening Standard, The Art Newspaper and The Times Literary Supplement.  Subsequent launch events were staged in New York and Washington D.C. by Flint’s affiliate US agency Jon Marder & Associates.
