Celebrating the Sheikh Zayed Book Award’s 20th Anniversary with an Academic Tour Across Italy

To mark the 20th anniversary of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, Flint Culture developed and executed a high-profile academic tour across Italy from 10 to 15 May 2026. Partnering with three prestigious Italian universities, Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and the University of Naples L’Orientale, the tour expanded the Award’s European footprint. Flint Culture managed all end-to-end logistics, stakeholder engagement, and a comprehensive communications campaign to successfully engage diverse regional audiences.

To celebrate the milestone 20th anniversary of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award (SZBA) and raise widespread awareness of its prestige, Flint Culture developed a major academic tour across Italy from 10 to 15 May 2026. Building upon successful collaborations from previous years, the 2026 Italy programme introduced an expanded format to elevate the Award’s profile within the European cultural landscape. By partnering with leading Italian Universities, the initiative successfully navigated Italy’s geographical segmentation, expanding the Award’s reach across the Northern regions via Venice, the North-Central hub through Bologna, and the Southern regions via Naples.

The tour combined academic symposia, public lectures, and dialogues at three of the country’s leading institutions: Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna (including the Centro Universitario Umberto Eco), and the University of Naples L’Orientale alongside the Premio Città di Napoli. Structured around the theme “Authenticity, Authority, and Mediation: From Classical Translation to Contemporary Literary Cultures and Digital Humanisms,” the itinerary symbolically linked Italian and Arab intellectual traditions. Classical translation traditions, including the transmission of Greek and Latin works into Arabic and, later, into Italian humanism, served as a unifying historical thread across all events, connecting students and academics alike.

Flint Culture delivered comprehensive, end-to-end services to ensure the tour’s success. The team managed all complex international and domestic travel logistics, coordinated directly with university networks, and handled on-the-ground event management across all three cities. Crucially, Flint Culture led the entire press office and communications strategy, securing impactful media coverage that amplified the Award’s reputation as a premier global literary prize. Through this seamless blend of stakeholder engagement, event coordination, and targeted media relations, Flint Culture reinforced the Award’s long-term institutional prestige in Italy.
