As part of the ongoing campaign for S&DR200 festival, Flint Culture devised an integrated crisis communications strategy and protocol. We orchestrated a number of media opportunities from 25 – 28 September 2025 to mark 200 years since the first journey on the Stockton & Darlington Railway.
His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh attended the Anniversary celebrations, alongside thousands of people from the UK, on Friday 26 September and met Chris Cubitt, the driver and the team of specialist engineers behind the newly restored replica of Locomotion no. 1.
We secured over 60 regional, national and international media, including The Northern Echo, BBC Breakfast, LBC, ITV, The Mirror, BBC Radio Tees, NHK, Politiken, AFP, Getty and Museums Journal, for a series of opportunities and viewing locations of Locomotion no. 1 recreating the iconic journey along sections of the original S&DR line.
Our team had the pleasure of facilitating journeys and access for three groups of media onboard Experiment and arranged on-site interviews with festival director Niccy Hallifax, among other key spokespeople.
For the anniversary weekend alone, we secured 209 Items of press coverage with 104 from National and international media, with an estimated global reach of 631 million.
