Originally built between 1530 and 1540 by the famed architect Mimar Sinan, the hammam underwent an extraordinary 13-year restoration led by The Marmara Group which was completed last year.
The first phase of media coverage for the project acknowledged the remarkable process undertaken to preserve this architectural masterpiece, and record its history in a brand new museum, with founding director Koza Güreli being featured in the Financial Times, CNN and The Art Newspaper. Furthermore, the team orchestrated a press trip to review a one-off contemporary exhibition staged throughout the baths, attracting outlets such as Artsy, Architectural Digest, Al Jazeera, Euronews and Weltkunst.
In May 2024, the project will reach its culmination with Zeyrek Çinili Hamam opening for bathing treatments inspired by the original Ottoman ritual. Press from across the UK, US, Europe and the Middle East will be among the first to try the bathing experience in April, and appreciate the hammam’s healing properties.
