Countdown to PROCESSIONS
In just a few weeks a time, PROCESSIONS, a UK-wide, mass participatory artwork will be taking place simultaneously in the four capitals of the UK on Sunday 10th June. Produced by Artichoke and commissioned by 14-18 NOW, PROCESSIONS celebrates the centenary year of the first women in Britain getting the right to vote.
On the 10th June, tens of thousands of women will take to the streets of Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London. Participants will each be given a wrap to wear in either green, white or violet – the suffragette colours – and will be choreographed into bands to appear as a flowing river of colour through the city streets, creating a living portrait of women and girls in the 21st century.
Registration is open and participants are encouraged to sign up to take part via the website, www.processions.co.uk. Leading female figures such as Dame Vivienne Westwood, Dame Judi Dench, Scottish MPs, The Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda, Ardern, MOBO Award founder Kanya King and June Sarpong are just some of the ambassadors vocalising their support for the event.
